Attention Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder Research Paper

Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), is a brain based developmental disorder that comes in three different subtypes: ADHD inattentive (ADHD-I), is most common among girls and is associated with greater number of academic problems especially in math and affect listening, learning, and remembering. The second and third subtype is ADHD hyperactive-impulsive type (ADHD-H) and ADHD combined type (ADHD-HI) it is most common in males and is associated with talking to oneself, getting in trouble, interrupting others, and fidgeting. Individuals with ADHD frequently have a high risk of developing another psychiatric disorder such as OCD or anxiety, are four times greater to carry a sexually transmitted disease, increase probability of†¦show more content†¦Some individual’s describe feeling foggy; I would imagine it like having a word on the tip of your tongue but worse, having 20 words on the tip of your tongue with the urge to intensely focus on your environment. T hey are repeatedly misunderstood by peers for their lack of memory, â€Å"always making excuses for themselves†, how they underperform; this can grow into social isolation. They may develop low self-esteem stemming from knowing that they have a mental disorder therefore, they believe they are inadequate. Often, parents or teachers who take care of people with ADHD get frustrated; this can be due to a mixture of behaviors, from impulsiveness, clumsiness to repeatedly interrupting. Teachers often need to modify their methods for a student with ADHD; to lessen the negative distraction to classmates from students with ADHD and to help the student with ADHD get an education that fits their needs. People with ADHD tend to do poorly (higher dropout rate, more suspensions) in school but things such as setting up breaks, reward systems, agendas, and classroom activities can help. Parents may struggle when raising their child and may need to do research and adjust their parenting style , for instance setting up routines, promoting physical exercise, and planning supervised activities.
